India's Bangladesh Problem explores the experience of Bengali Muslims on the Indian side of the India–Bangladesh border in the context of neoliberal policies, unequal bilateral relations, labor migration, contested citizenship, and increasingly xenophobic government rhetoric. Drawing on extensive research in the borderlands and hinterlands of both countries, Navine Murshid argues that ever-deepening neoliberal policies across the border have shaped how certain ethnic groups are valued and have reconfigured social hierarchies. She provides new insights into the strategic inclusion, exclusion, and invisibility that characterizes Bengali Muslims' lives, rendering them a group susceptible to manipulation by virtue of their ethnic kinship to the majority of Bangladeshis. In turn, Bengali Muslims simultaneously resist and utilize received neoliberal ideas to sustain their lives and livelihoods at a time when neoliberal development has largely bypassed them.<a:text textemphasis="true"></a:text>

Leer menos

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0934/6590/3421/files/rn-image_picker_lib_temp_2a84af89-7139-4155-9324-069af143b1ca.jpg?v=1791656451
the-rise-of-islam-and-the-bengal-frontier-1204-1760-by-richard-m-eaton
The Rise of Islam and the Bengal Frontier: 1204-1760 by Richard M. It has deeply affected the psyche of more than four generations in the nation. Jinnah: India - Partition Independence talks about the possible reasons for the partition though a single and definite answer ceases to exist. The author Jaswant Singh starts off by talking about Jinnah's political journey. Jinnah was a strong proponent of unity among Hindus and Muslims but eventually he was the sole voice of the Muslim community in the country. Jinnah is regarded as Pakistan's creator and Singh tries to explain the reason behind such a transformation. No Pakistani or Indian politician or member of parliament has tried to present a political and analytical biography of Jinnah. The author questions the origin of the idea of Muslims as a separate nation and talks about where it has led India. It then talks about the future of both nations. Jinnah: India - Partition Independence is a special piece of literature that is written by an innovator and practitioner of policy in search of truth. Singh concludes by telling readers that for lasting peace to return in southern Asia it is vital for people to comprehend the reason for its sudden abandonment. Through the course of his book he also examines the possible roles played by the Congress party and the British in the partition. K. Shah

The changing scenarios in the India's neighbourhood and in the global order over the past decade have made India to take a close look at her national interests. The bipolar world has given way to a non-polar world in which several new powers have emerged. India has to formulate policy options about her foreign and security policies. The policy makers have to think about India's relations with some of the important countries in her immediate neighbourhood, develop plausible scenarios for each of them, and propose options for consideration by the concern authorities. The Indian policymakers will have to think about the likely challenges and the opportunities that may emerge within next ten years. India's foreign policy has always regarded the concept of neighbourhood as one of widening concentric circles, around a central axis of historical and cultural commonalities. The guiding principles of India's Foreign Policy have been founded on Panchsheel, pragmatism and pursuit of national interest. In a period of rapid and continuing change, foreign policy must be capable of responding optimally to new challenges and opportunities. India has formal diplomatic relations with most nations, as the world's second most populous country, the world's most-populous democracy and one of the fastest growing major economies in the world. With the world's tenth largest military expenditures, tenth largest economy by nominal rates and third largest by purchasing power parity; India is a regional power, and a potential Superpower. It is India's growing international influence that increasingly gives it a more prominent voice in global affairs. Narendra Modi took the oath of office as India's 14th prime minister. Among his first decisions as head of government - in fact, it was set in motion even before the formal start of his tenure - was an unconventional act of diplomacy: inviting eight foreign leaders of neighbouring countries to attend his inauguration. While many commentators claimed before his election that Modi would be a nationalist hardliner, a foreign affairs novice, or simply more of the same on external affairs, the prime minister instead proved more active and (perhaps less surprisingly) more pragmatic than many had expected. In two years, Modi has displayed an instinctive understanding of power in the conduct of world affairs, and he has also benefited from being less politically hamstrung than his predecessor Manmohan Singh, with whose worldview he in fact shares much in common. But this myth obscures a troubled and complex a long struggle to reconcile the ethics of nonviolence with the need to use violence to rule. Upinder Singh documents the dynamic tension between violence and nonviolence in ancient Indian political thought and practice over twelve hundred years.Political Violence in Ancient India looks at representations of kingship and political violence in epics, religious texts, political treatises, plays, poems, inscriptions, and art from 600 BCE to 600 CE. As kings controlled their realms, fought battles, and meted out justice, intellectuals debated the boundary between the force required to sustain power and the excess that led to tyranny and oppression. Duty (dharma) and renunciation were important in this discussion, as were punishment, war, forest tribes, and the royal hunt. Singh reveals a range of perspectives that defy rigid religious categorization. Buddhists, Jainas, and even the pacifist Maurya emperor Ashoka recognized that absolute nonviolence was impossible for kings.By 600 CE religious thinkers, political theorists, and poets had justified and aestheticized political violence to a great extent. Nevertheless, questions, doubt, and dissent remained. These debates are as important for understanding political ideas in the ancient world as for thinking about the problem of political violence in our own time.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0934/6590/3421/files/rn-image_picker_lib_temp_ec8834e7-2a32-49bb-86d8-bb180ccf7a9a.jpg?v=1791656466
raw-in-bangladesh-a-history-of-india-s-covert-operations-abu-rushd
RAW in Bangladesh: A History of India’s Covert Operations — Abu Rushd

Product details of RAW IN BANGLADESH: Portrait of Aggressive Indian Intelligence Operations by Abu Rushd

• Language:English• Books Cover:Paper Back• Product Title:Raw In Bangladesh• Edited By:Abu Rushd• Edition:N/A• Color Family:Black, White• Page:395• Catagory:Media, Music & Books / Books / English Books / Education Books

It's needless to say that although the modus operandi of the intelligence organizations is regarded as secretive, still there are discussions on hostile intelligence services (HIS) in some form or the other everywhere. Now they are facing ecocide. The Himalayan snowcaps are in meltdown mode, due to climate change―accelerated by a rain of black soot from massive burning of coal and other fuels in both China and India. The mighty rivers of Tibet are being dammed by Chinese engineering consortiums to feed the mainland's thirst for power, and the land is being relentlessly mined in search of minerals to feed China's industrial complex. On the drawing board are plans for a massive engineering project to divert water from Eastern Tibet to water-starved Northern China. Ruthless Chinese repression leaves Tibetans powerless to stop the reckless destruction of their sacred land, but they are not the only victims of this campaign: the nations downstream from Tibet rely heavily on rivers sourced in Tibet for water supply, and for rich silt used in agriculture. After the death of Emperor Aurangzeb, the Mughal empire began to slowly fracture. In the east, the nawabs of Bengal, who ruled in the name of the Mughals, took the opportunity to break free. By the middle of the century, Siraj-ud-daulah succeeded his grandfather, Alivardi Khan, to the throne of Bengal. The young nawab clashed frequently with the Company as it looked to aggressively expand and safeguard its interests. Who were the faces beyond a callow Siraj and a crafty Clive, the two main combatants? From Sumatra to Vietnam, the inhabitants built wooden houses on poles whether they lived in flooded coastal plains or in the highlands. Their diet consisted mainly of rice and fish. They believed in common folk deities such as the rice-spirit. They chewed betel and engaged in pastimes such as cockfighting and sepak takraw. How did such features come to spread across an area of 4.5 million square kilometres? Southeast Asia – for all its diversity of ethnicity, language, religion – can best be understood as a region that has been knit together by a network of trade routes over land and sea. This revelatory new book traces the diffusion of cultures across Southeast Asia from the last few centuries BCE, by looking at trade goods such as Indian beads, Vietnamese Dongson drums, Chinese ceramics, and spices from the Indonesian archipelago. The authors take us through a host of ancient port cities, such as Srivijaya, whose fortunes were intimately tied to these trade routes, pointing out striking similarities in architecture, writing systems, and everyday customs.Richly illustrated with maps, drawings and full-colour photographs, Between the Bay of Bengal and the Java Sea is an illuminating slice of history that reveals in beautiful detail the longstanding mercantile links and cultural kinship among the disparate peoples of Southeast Asia.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0934/6590/3421/files/rn-image_picker_lib_temp_0930fe05-8eed-407d-82ba-2cc4ce7cda70.webp?v=1791656476
the-only-good-indians-by-stephen-graham-jones
The Only Good Indians By Stephen Graham Jones

A powerful horror novel blending cultural identity with supernatural revenge. The BRIC grouping (Brazil, Russia, India and China) was deemed to be at a similar stage of newly advanced economic development when Goldman Sachs coined the acronym in 2001. As a new asset class for the financial economy, portfolio funds were launched and as a consequence political economic initiatives lent the BRIC grouping status and cohesiveness. The Bay of Bengal: The Next BRICS Asset Class has been written to demonstrate the economic potential of the grouping, and the benefits of creating a distinct asset class. The author compares economic/corporate performance data of the Bay of Bengal (BoB) grouping with other regions of developing countries (BRICS, ASEAN, SAARC, EAC, MENA, EEC, CIS, MINT, CIVETS, Pacific Alliance, etc.) to show that the Bengal group is expected to reach a combined GDP of $6 trillion by 2021, just as the BRICS did in 2006 (five years after BRIC was coined). The BoB grouping has relatively the best linear/synchronised growth, a high proportion of companies generating consistent profits/return on equity, a more diversified profit pool and a fair mix of economic-growth drivers compared to other economic groupings. The economic relevance of this region is clear and statistically substantiated, and The Next BRICS Asset Class sets out to reverse the current lack of awareness amongst the financial economy. The era, marked by the desecration of temples and construction of mosques from temple-rubble, is for many South Asians a lightning rod for debates on communalism, religious identity and inter-faith conflict. Using Persian and Arabic manuscripts, epigraphs and inscriptions, Fouzia Farooq Ahmad demystifies key aspects of governance and religion in this complex and controversial period. Why were small sets of foreign invaders and administrators able to dominate despite the cultural, linguistic and religious divides separating them from the ruled? And to what extent did people comply with the authority of sultans they knew very little about? By focusing for the first time on the relationship between the sultans, the bureaucracy and the ruled Muslim Rule in Medieval India outlines the practical dynamics of medieval Muslim political culture and its reception. This approach shows categorically that sultans did not possess meaningful political authority among the masses, and that their symbols of legitimacy were merely post hoc socio-cultural embellishments.Ahmad's thoroughly researched revisionist account is essential reading for all students and researchers working on the history of South Asia from the medieval period to the present day.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0934/6590/3421/files/rn-image_picker_lib_temp_7407dc87-9f8a-4c60-81f4-428fbede9f20.webp?v=1791656486
the-partition-of-bengal-and-assam-1932-1947-contour-of-freedom-by-bidyut-chakrabarty
The Partition of Bengal and Assam, 1932–1947: Contour of Freedom by Bidyut Chakrabarty

The fragmentation of Bengal and Assam in 1947 was a crucial moment in India's socio-political history as a nation state. Concentrating on the later sixteenth- and seventeenth-century history of Vijayanagara, this book details the pattern of rule established in this important and long-lived Hindu kingdom that was followed by other, often smaller kingdoms of peninsular India until the onset of colonialism. Through an analysis of the politics, society, and economy of Vijayanagara, the author addresses the central question of the extent to which Vijayanagara, as a medieval Hindu kingdom, can be viewed as a prototype of the polities and societies confronted by the British in the late eighteenth century. It has also brought China into focus. This book traces the emergence of China as a key player in Afghanistan and the evolution of China’s Afghan policy especially with respect to its relations with the Taliban. Beijing's dominant role in Afghanistan’s future is a potentially game-changing development in Asian geopolitics, even if questions remain about the former's appetite to step in to fill the void and the limits of its ambitions. In The Comrades and the Mullahs, Ananth Krishnan and Stanly Johny examine what Beijing’s interests are and the drivers of its foreign policy, and, more specifically, how its new Silk Road project―the Belt and Road Initiative―is shaping China–Afghan relations. They look at how Afghanistan has emerged as a key point on the corridor heading west from Xinjiang, and discuss the Xinjiang factor, drawing on their travels to China’s western frontiers, as well as the internal dynamics that are pushing Beijing’s westward march. Another factor is the East Turkestan Islamic Movement and the terror groups that are leading to an increasingly securitized approach to China’s western regions and beyond, including possible Chinese plans to deploy special forces along the China–Afghan border areas in the Wakhan corridor and Badakhshan region. China’s Afghan engagement has also deepened its ‘all-weather’ alliance with Pakistan―with Beijing increasingly leaning on Islamabad, particularly in its outreach to the Taliban and other elements in Afghanistan that have long been supported by the Pakistani state―and is a perennial source of tension between Islamabad and Kabul. The authors show how this increasing closeness is alarming for India, and might have far-reaching consequences, especially in Kashmir."

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0934/6590/3421/files/rn-image_picker_lib_temp_0ed613f4-895f-4a1d-97b5-b0747b73b4bf.jpg?v=1791656498
the-absolutely-true-diary-of-a-part-time-indian-novel-by-sherman-alexie
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian
Novel by Sherman Alexie

A New York Times bestseller―over a million copies sold!

Bestselling author Sherman Alexie tells the story of Junior, a budding cartoonist growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation. Before that weekend, all national currencies were valued to the U.S. dollar, which was convertible to gold at a fixed rate. That system, established by the Bretton Woods Agreement at the end of World War II, was the foundation of the international monetary system that helped fuel the greatest expansion of middle-class prosperity the world has ever seen.

In making his decision, Nixon shocked world leaders, bankers, investors, traders and everyone involved in global finance. Jeffrey E. Garten argues that many of the roots of America’s dramatic retrenchment in world affairs began with that momentous event that was an admission that America could no longer afford to uphold the global monetary system. It opened the way for massive market instability and speculation that has plagued the world economy ever since, but at the same time it made possible the gigantic expansion of trade and investment across borders which created our modern era of once unimaginable progress.

Based on extensive historical research and interviews with several participants at Camp David, and informed by Garten’s own insights from positions in four presidential administrations and on Wall Street, Three Days at Camp David chronicles this critical turning point, analyzes its impact on the American economy and world markets, and explores its ramifications now and for the future.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0934/6590/3421/files/rn-image_picker_lib_temp_4c1d3c8c-d4ca-49ef-a1c6-e9c9920068b4.jpg?v=1791656500
the-line-of-control-travelling-with-the-indian-and-pakistani-armies-book-by-happymon-jacob
The Line of Control: Travelling with the Indian and Pakistani Armies
Book by Happymon Jacob

Happymon Jacob was given the unique opportunity to see the border between India and Pakistan from both sides. But they can be avoided if the world accepts the key principles for a new global partnership spelled out in The New Asian Hemisphere.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0934/6590/3421/files/rn-image_picker_lib_temp_7bd26c19-2f86-49f8-a331-086ad5c3cbad.jpg?v=1791656509
the-asian-21st-century-book-by-kishore-mahbubani
The Asian 21st Century
Book by Kishore Mahbubani

This open access book consists of essays written by Kishore Mahbubani to explore the challenges and dilemmas faced by the West and Asia in an increasingly interdependent world village and intensifying geopolitical competition.

The contents cover four parts: Part One The End of the Era of Western Domination. The major strategic error that the West is now making is to refuse to accept this reality. The West needs to learn how to act strategically in a world where they are no longer the number 1. Part Two The Return of Asia. From the years 1 to 1820, the largest economies in the world were Asian. After 1820 and the rise of the West, however, great Asian civilizations like China and India were dominated and humiliated. The twenty-first century will see the return of Asia to the center of the world stage. Part Three The Peaceful Rise of China. The shift in the balance of power to the East has been most pronounced in the rise of China. While this rise has been peaceful, many in the West have responded with considerable concern over the influence China will have on the world order. Part Four Globalization, Multilateralism and Cooperation. Many of the world’s pressing issues, such as COVID-19 and climate change, are global issues and will require global cooperation to deal with. In short, human beings now live in a global village. States must work with each other, and we need a world order that enables and facilitates cooperation in our global village

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0934/6590/3421/files/rn-image_picker_lib_temp_9284247b-b8ae-4513-9bba-5a78c0641f0a.jpg?v=1791656510
the-indian-economy-by-rakesh-bhattacharya
The Indian Economy by Rakesh Bhattacharya

This book provides a detailed structured analysis of the transition that has taken place in the Indian economy since independence to the present times (including the period of COVID-19 pandemic). The other sections focus on the political changes that have occurred in the postcolonial states since independence, as well as the successive political changes in Nepal during the same period, and the structure and functioning of the main governmental and non-governmental institutions, including the structure of the state itself (unitary or federal), political parties, the judiciary, and the military. Chapman

Anyone who is planning on carrying out research in South Asia or indeed anyone who simply wishes to understand more about this cultural heartland should read this book. It shows how geological movements moulded the land of this unique cradle and how they still impact on it. Discussions are woven around the three major forces of integration. These are 'identitive' forces - bonds of language, ethnicity, religion or ideology; 'utilitarian' forces - bonds of common material interest, and 'coercion' - the institutional use or threat of physical violence. By studying these forces, Professor Chapman shows how the organization of territory has been central to the region's historic, cultural, linguistic and economic development. In addition to the material on the Northwest frontier, Afghanistan and Kashmir which was added for the second edition, the Northeastern borderlands are also now examined in this fully revised third edition. The current geopolitical state of the region is completely updated and greatly enhanced.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0934/6590/3421/files/rn-image_picker_lib_temp_40f44a67-d355-47f7-a7c3-ec97e86b90ce.webp?v=1791656514
